There are several charming cafes within walking distance of the Cottage. The Aldgate Providore serves gourmet breakfast and lunch, and there is also an excellent bakery on the main street. The butcher is well known for his quality meats, including salt-bush lamb.
A 25-minute walk in the direction of the city will find you in Stirling, with many wonderful cafes including the well-known Organic Market cafe on Druids Avenue – excellent for a buzzing atmosphere, delicious meals and hot beverages. Red Cacao is famous for its chocolates – and delicious coffees, inspiring hot chocolates, and delectable French-style treats.
Historic Hahndorf is a 15-minute drive from Aldgate and offers another great selection of cafes, boutique and speciality shops, and pubs with food and beverages that reflect their German heritage.
Stirling, Aldgate and Hahndorf are considered to be some of the most picturesque places in the Adelaide Hills, especially if visited in Autumn. On the last Sunday of every month there is a market held in Stirling main street and Druids Avenue – well worth visiting if possible.
