Extra Features of the Accommodation

The Cottage is nearby a place called Stangate House, which you won’t want to miss visiting. This is a beautiful place that has a huge garden filled with camellias.  Stangate House is open to the public at various times throughout the year, and the Camellia Society hold open days when the camellias are flowering at their best.  Stangate House is a perfect place to hold a wedding, and it is within easy walking distance from the Cottage.  For more details about Stangate House please visit their website at  http://www.stangatehouse.org.au/

The Aldgate Pump Hotel opposite the Cottage offers an excellent seasonal menu.  The pub has a large, shady beer garden that is great for warm summer evenings, and indoors there is a wonderful log fire for keeping warm in winter.  They also have private function rooms available for hire.  You can contact the Hotel by visiting their website at http://www.aldgatepumphotel.com.au/

The Santos Tour Down Under WorldTour  is an annual international cycling race – and the Cottage is perfect for viewing the race.  Often the race route passes directly in front of the Cottage’s front gate on Strathalbyn Road  – and at other times it’s a short drive to see the pelleton as it passes through local hills villages such as Stirling and Mylor – that are only a few minutes’ drive away.

If a third guest is included in your plans, we can accommodate if required – at $50 extra per night.

The gardens provide a beautiful oasis of calm and happiness.  The surrounding majestic trees provide privacy and are visited by birds and wildlife including ducks and koalas.  Discover your very own wishing well filled with flowers, paths that meander around the cottage and over Aldgate Creek, and unusual garden features tucked away among the bushes and ferns.

By the house the paths are made of brick, and as you enter the garden they change to fine wood-chip that provides a firm yet springy surface – like a natural forest floor.
